Daniela is a third year PhD candidate in chemical engineering at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. She was born in Congo, grew up in South Africa, and moved to the United States with her family as refugees in 2016. Daniela is passionate about making energy equity a reality through her research and hopes to inspire others with her story.

For Women’s History Month, she spoke with us about how her unique perspective as an historian allows her to notice the missing information about women of color in historical records. Prior to coming to Columbia, she studied electronics and communication engineering in India and worked as an advanced data scientist at a leading healthcare consulting firm. She is passionate about women’s right to access education and healthcare. Suane Larissa Bispo dos Santos is a student at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). Originally from Brazil, she came to New York City with her family in 2023 to pursue a Masters degree in Public Administration.
