On the Tragedy at Umpqua Community College

October 02, 2015

Dear All,

By now you have seen the tragic news of the deadly shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. Our thoughts and condolences are with the victims' families, as well as with campus communities and others across the country who have experienced such horrific events.

Tragedies of this kind are distressing to us all, and for some may resonate with past losses or tragedies in their own lives. Should you wish to talk, campus mental health professionals are available for you (BarnardMorningside and Columbia University Irving Medical Center), as are the University Chaplain and her staff.

The Office of University Life also welcomes reflections, ideas and links to information and resources related to gun violence for possible posting to our Ideas and Action page. Please email [email protected].

Finally, Columbia University's Public Safety team has shared a message from Vice President for Public Safety Jim McShane. It includes important information and resources for the University community, and I encourage you to read it.
