The Columbia Community Citizenship Initiative Starts Today!

September 29, 2020

Dear Students,

The Columbia Community Citizenship Initiative starts today!

The Initiative’s two modules — Sexual Respect Initiative and Inclusion & Belonging Initiative — ask you and all Columbia students what it means to you to be part of this community. Each module offers you new skills and the opportunity to be part of creating an inclusive campus culture.

The Sexual Respect Initiative asks each of us to promote a culture that reinforces sexual respect, unequivocally rejects all forms of gender-based misconduct and empowers students to know where and when to get help. The Inclusion & Belonging Initiative asks each of us to be part of a University-wide conversation about cultivating inclusion, considering the impact of bias, and strengthening resilience as individuals and a community.

Getting started is easy: Check University Life’s website for the full schedule of workshops and other options. All students who are new to their Columbia school are required to take the Initiative, and all other Columbia students are welcome and encouraged to participate! The Initiative runs from September 29 to November 6, 2020 — sign up now for great workshops and other activities!

Community citizenship at Columbia begins with all of us. This Initiative was created by students, faculty and staff across Columbia in partnership with University Life. We look forward to your contributions to a campus culture that is equitable and inclusive for all.

If you have ideas for workshops or other events, or other feedback that you would like to share with us, we want to hear from you. Write to us at [email protected].
